Framed, semi-frameless and frameless
How much metal you see.
Framed glass has metal around every edge; semi-frameless has it on some edges; frameless glass stands with only small clamps, hinges or a wall channel.
- Framed
- Sturdy, more to clean
- Semi-frameless
- A middle ground
- Frameless
- Cleanest look
- Thicker glass
- Frameless
What it is
Frames support thinner glass. Without a frame, the glass itself must be thicker and stronger, held by fittings at the wall and floor.
Good for
Framed
Strong and usually the most affordable; black frames suit industrial and Crittall-style looks.
Frameless
A clean, open look with fewer edges to catch dirt.
What to weigh up
Framed
Frames have more corners to clean.
Frameless
Usually costs more, and needs accurate fitting.
Framed: a matt black frame and pivot door.
Frameless: one panel with a slim support bar.
